In a night so dark and long that you'd expect
to see the Pleiades fade and fall apart,
blown by a cold and raging mistral flecked
with trembling lights and wounds like from a dart,

mankind was staring at the bending heavens
from rusty cities, when bright blazing sphere
bloomed there, and landed, carrying creatures (sweavens)
with tentacles or forms to human near.

«We are the people born among the stars»,
they said, «We heard your cries, and peace bring you
and knowledge far superior, and your scars

we’ll cure and end the pain in which you grew.
Rely on us, of ignorance the chain
we’ll teach you how to break». They were then slain.
